Picnics and family outings
Pack a picnic or pick up takeout from one of downtown’s restaurants and head to the Riverfront. There are picnic tables and/or tables and chairs at the Turning Basin, American Civil War Center plaza and on the western end of Belle Isle. All along the 1.25-mile Canal Walk, you’ll find benches, stairs and boulders that can also offer places to sit. If you pack a blanket or chairs, you can picnic almost anywhere and discover some of the interesting natural environment on both sides of the James River and on its islands and rocks.
Peruse all the banner icons and you’ll find all sorts of things to do along the Riverfront.
